All About Feeds and Readers
Feeds let you pull your content from blogs and web sites into your web browser or aggregator. You can have the information collected for you automatically into programs like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, My Yahoo, Bloglines and others. Feeds are completely controlled by you. Web feeds are just data formats used for serving you with frequently updated content. They let you combine the information you want to be updated on - all in one handy place.

How to get started? You'll need a feed reader. Either use a feed-savvy web browser (for Mozilla's Firefox or Internet Explorer, choose the RSS or XML buttons above) or choose from the other popular readers listed above. All of our feeds are free! |
This website offers a feed and you can subscribe to it.
If you want to subscribe to the KansasFreePress.com feed, it is easy to register it with an aggregator program (also called a feed reader or a news reader) running on your own machine. Doing this is usually as simple as dragging the link from the web browser to the aggregator.
Whenever you click on a link on any of our pages that says "Subscribe to feed", a new window will open. In a box at the top of the new window, you will see another "Subscribe to this feed". When you click on this in Internet Explorer, a new little window will open and from there you will click "Subscribe".
Both Firefox and Internet Explorer allow receipts of feeds from the tool bar; using the Live Bookmarks and Favorites sections respectively.
If you have an account like My Yahoo or you have a different aggregator program on your machine, your browser will also allow you to select on of those options too. If you've never subscribed to a feed before, you might like to try ours and see for yourself if it's something you like.
Our website offers two ways to subscribe to content here, ATOM (recommended) and RSS:
- To receive updates via Atom XML on all new blog postings, simply click here. When the new window opens, click "Subscribe to this Feed" again.
- To receive your feed via RSS XML, click here. When the new window opens, click "Subscribe to this Feed" again.
Compared to just going to websites - receiving web feeds has some great advantages.
The main benefit of subscribing to feeds is that since blog and news sites update frequently or daily, you do not have to actually come to our website to keep up with the updates. This means you can scan and select new and updated material without checking your favorite blogs all the time. You can be notified of new content without having to actively check for it.
When subscribing to a feed, you don't have to disclose your email address, so you are not increasing your exposure to threats sometimes associated with email, like spam, viruses, phishing, and identity theft.
You are in complete control. If you want to stop receiving a feed, you do not have to send an 'unsubscribe' request; you can simply remove the feed from your aggregator.
