Nicki Scheid
Nicki welcomes you to read her words here.
Nicki Scheid was born and raised in the Benton, Kansas area. She currently lives in Wichita. She has had a passion for current events and politics ever since she was a little girl. She remembers having her first 'letter to the editor' published in the newspaper when she was still in elementary school.
She says she has a pack of Chihuahuas, currently, and predicts that she always will. She thinks that even when she's old, she'll probably be an crazy, old dog lady. (Well, she'll be in good company because many of the writers at the Kansas Free Press are dog people too.) Nicki likes to watch sports, especially football (college and pro), college basketball and hockey.
Nicki says that even though she's always had an activist's soul, she would sometimes make excuses for not getting involved in politics, thinking that perhaps writing a check or a letter would be good enough. She no longer believes that checks and letters are enough. Whenever possible, Nicki tries to offer her time and talent to grassroots efforts, to make a difference. She attended the 2004 Democratic National Convention as an official page for the Kansas Democratic Party.
Nicki says that she has an opinion on just about everything, but that's she's particularly focus on women's rights and healthcare. Recently she was elected vice president for the Wichita Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). Sooner, rather than later, she hopes to find a career path that will allow her to pursue her political passions, her writing and leadership skills, while at the same time making a living.
We are delighted that Nicki is writing with the Kansas Free Press!
