Lisa Hecht
Lisa welcomes you to read her words here.
Lisa Hecht is a fifth generation Kansan, as well as a proud mom of two, wife, sister, friend and feminist. Her heroes and heroines are those who speak out against injustice and intolerance, even when it is not politically popular to do so.
Lisa is proud of her work in the social services, particularly with women and addictions, and at two psychiatric hospitals, including The Menninger Clinic.
Her most important (and eye-opening) work was in the domestic violence and sexual assault arena. In that work, she was discouraged by what she learned about these crimes, the harm done to victims and the inadequate responses from our court systems, even though the criminal justice system is presumably set up to keep victims safe and offenders accountable. She also was rewarded by finding the very best in people in the tireless advocacy of the staff and volunteers.
Lisa's passion for women's issues as well as for equality for gay and lesbian Americans has been reignited with her concerns over upcoming state elections, as well as demonstrating to her kids that ordinary people can make a difference.
She says that her guilty pleasures include watching QVC (the shopping network) and dreaming of the day when she can host her own Diamonique show! One little known fact about Lisa is that she auditioned for the soap opera, "As the World Turns" while on spring break in Daytona Beach.
