Josh Slaughter
Josh invites you to read his words here.
Josh Slaughter was born in a red state, but at an early age his mind opened to realize he wasn't doomed. Instead he's spent the last 25 years trying to transcend his upbringings and locality.
He was born in a small town in Kansas where he quickly learned to expand his mind. The captain of a state championship debate team, Josh quickly learned Kansas could be so much more than a red state. He joined and founded the Young Democrats at his local high school, however unpopular they were, and never gave up in a largely red school district. He then went straight into the teeth of the lion when he attended a staunchly conservative Christian school on the plains.
It was there that Josh started writing feverishly, beginning as the liberal answer to the schools right-wing columnist. He shot unabashedly with both barrels blazing as one of his first articles bore the headline "Newsflash: God is not a republican." He was also a KACP award winning sports journalist, writing a column called Sargent Slaughter's Rants. After graduating in 2006, Josh became a KPA award winning sports writer before taking his current job with Emporia State University.
He is single and resides in Emporia, Kansas. We are honored that this experienced writer has joined our citizen journalism project at the Kansas Free Press. We look forward to anything and everything he wishes to write from opinion pieces, sports coverage or news.
