Janet Carman was raised on a farm south of St. Francis, Kansas, in the post World War II era. She attended school in St. Francis, then went to college at Kansas Wesleyan for two years. Janet married a St. Francis farmer, then the two went off to college together in 1965. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1967.

Janet and her husband later ended up in Dallas, Texas, where they raised four children. She taught gifted and talented students in an inner-city, predominantly Hispanic school near Love Field in Dallas. Her grown children now live in Texas and in France with their families.

When Janet and her husband retired, they moved to the farm that her great grandfather developed at the turn of the century. They have rejuvenated the house that he built in 1916. The old 1904 barn still stands.

Janet says that she is delighted to have the opportunity to share news and views from our corner of the state with other Kansas Free Press readers. We, too, are happy that Janet has joined our band of citizen journalists.
