OSKALOOSA, Kan. - Today, I, James Robert Faris, announce my candidacy for the Kansas 47th State House District's seat. This is not the first time in recent memory that I have made this announcement. In 2006 I jumped into the political waters of the electorate for the first time. I lost that race, but I was not disheartened by what I learned and the people I met.

Now four years later, I still see needs that have not been met and voters that are still tired of the lip service that they receive each election year from career politicians that say everything to get elected then forget who elected them when they return to office saying they're for more state money for the classrooms, but stiff the school districts and teachers with a bounced check expecting them to fend for themselves.

Why You Should Answer the Door

OSKALOOSA, Kan. - I know many of you out there are like me in that when someone that looks like they want something comes knocking at your door, you treat them like a Jehovah's Witness and sit very still not to make a sound and hope they go away. Being someone that has walked many a neighborhood in the past few years, I can say that those who come a knocking aren't all bad.

OSKALOOSA, Kan. - Is Senator Brownback an unbeatable candidate for Kansas Governor? I don't think so. Many of the republicans that I have had the chance to visit with seem to think that he is a classic politician who doesn't know much about anything. I've heard time and time again that he is a lot like Jim Ryan in the case that he is only engaged during election season.

Campaigning Ideas

OSKALOOSA, Kan. - I want to run through some of the stuff that I have refreshed my mind about when it comes to campaigning for a local office. When it comes to city elections, I have found that one of the biggest things you can do is advertise your campaign in the local newspaper outlet.

Running for City Council in Oskaloosa, Kansas, I found that the folks that will more then likely vote in an off year election will be the ones that read the local paper. I don't know how many people that saw the ads that I ran, and stopped me on the street to ask questions about my campaign. They seem to be quite the conversation starter.
