And you dont think democrats do any better? Remember the presdential debates back in 2004 where it was one long Bush-bash. Every speech was "I hate Bush" and the next was "I hate him more" and the worse insult was to call a candidate "Bush-lite". It really was a stupid strategy. Instead of saying what they could do better it's all about hating Bush.
A democrat is in the White House and a republican is in the governors mansion. All the oppsoing parties candidates are going to go after him.
I think the Democrats in the 2008 primary campaign did better! They actually debated issues and made proposals. They didn't have to point out the shortcomings of the Bush administration.
But, Brad, I agree that all campaigns (both republican and democrat) are much to negative with 'mud slinging' at the opposition. It would be far more convincing, for me, if they offered positive solutions to what they perceive to be wrong with status quo of their opponents. It is easier to point the negatives of the past than to formulate and make positive proosals for the future.
It doesn't say much for the intelligence of the public, but professional analysts and campaign madagers say the public responds favorably toward the most negative campaign strategies.
In 2008 yes, why? They had no clea target like Bush. However I was talking 2004 where Al Sharpton shot his mouth off and the democrats ended up with John Kerry, and losing!
