Announcing My Candidacy for the State Legislature

By Jim Faris
Advocacy | June 9, 2010

OSKALOOSA, Kan. - Today, I, James Robert Faris, announce my candidacy for the Kansas 47th State House District's seat. This is not the first time in recent memory that I have made this announcement. In 2006 I jumped into the political waters of the electorate for the first time. I lost that race, but I was not disheartened by what I learned and the people I met.

Now four years later, I still see needs that have not been met and voters that are still tired of the lip service that they receive each election year from career politicians that say everything to get elected then forget who elected them when they return to office saying they're for more state money for the classrooms, but stiff the school districts and teachers with a bounced check expecting them to fend for themselves.

My wife and I are expecting out first child in August, a gift from God. A life with the potential to go any number of directions. Every child born is such a life and every child born has a right to that life. To fail to supply the child with every opportunity is our greatest injustice and our most heartbreaking shortcoming, our foster care and adoption system needs our immediate attention.

In May of 2009 I was elected to my first government post serving on the Oskaloosa City Council. I currently serve on the city's health board working to clean up our city, it hasn't been easy to say the least. Serving as your state representative, I want to clean up our cities, counties, and state as a whole so by having cleaner streets, we can have safer communities creating a brighter future for our children and many generations to come.

Growing up in a family band, I had the opportunity to travel all over the United States and Kansas. I grew up knowing first that I needed to listen to my audience and not just play what I thought they wanted to hear.

To you that wish to speak but cannot voice, those who tire of hopelessness but still hope, show me what matters to you and let's make it our fight.

Together we will not falter, together we shall not fail, together there is hope, together there is promise.

Let us begin a new, let us begin today.

Mr. Faris- I don't find any information about you or your candidacy on the Internet, other than this post. Is there somewhere we can go to find out where you stand on specific issues?
