May this new year sustain
Our collective, consuming desire for truth,
Anchored first by honesty,
And for justice, tempered with mercy.
May it bring us minds always awed
By the simple things, yet questioning,
Curious and still unafraid of change.
May our hearts be trusting
And outlooks bright, even when assailed
By seemingly overwhelming odds.
Though we may bear great responsibilities,
May we press forward confidently, courageously,
Our loads lightened with intended magnanimity.
May we find the grace to forgive and
The humility to be the ones forgiven.
May we unearth goodness in everyday occurrences,
And hear the brilliant in common conversations.
May those around us be inspired
By our enthusiasm, our aliveness,
Our ability to find miracles in the obvious,
And in unexpected people and places.
May this year bring us old friends and new,
To share our many pleasures,
To stand with us during our trials
And rejoice with us in our triumphs.
May we always keep within reach
Of our abiding senses of humor,
Finding the ridiculous, first in ourselves,
As then in life around us, mostly
Entertained, not embarrassed by it all.
May this year be our most abundant. Yet.
