WICHITA, Kan. - Members of the Kansas National Organization for Women (Kansas NOW) breathe a collective sigh of relief upon receipt of the news that the jury in the trial of admitted murderer Scott Roeder has handed down a guilty verdict, finding the him guilty of the crime of first degree murder and aggravated assault.
We hope that it will serve as a strong message to those that have exalted this coward into a position of prominence in the so called pro-life movement. Violence in any form against abortion doctors will not be tolerated.
Judge Wilbert's initial decision to allow the defense to argue for a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter caused much apprehension and cast shadows of doubt and suspicion onto the court proceedings.
His ultimate decision not to allow the defense to present the testimony of former Kansas Attorney General Phil Kline and his commendable control of the testimony presented by Scott Roeder, himself, put a halt to the defense's attempt at assassinating the character of Dr. George Tiller.
Scott Roeder's obsession with abortion ultimately culminated into a final act of violence against a beloved health care professional.
As we await the sentencing scheduled for March 9th, we hope that justice will continue to be served through the harshest possible sentence for this premeditated and calculated assassination.

Just as our law does, I respect and uphold each individual woman's right to decide what to do with her own pregnancy and to maintain complete sovereignty over her own body and choices of what to do - or not do - with her own body.
How we each may feel about abortion is only important if we get pregnant and are making decisions about our own bodies. We have no right to dictate what other women do with their bodies.
I may have all kinds of feelings and thoughts about abortion. The day that I become pregnant (which of course is anatomically impossible) is the ONLY DAY that my opinion about abortion should matter. Because that is the day that I would make a decision about MY OWN BODY and no one else's.
To try to dictate what another person will do with her own body is the ultimate violation of personal freedom.
