His press release is below...

Chris Steineger Announces Candidacy for Kansas Secretary of State

TOPEKA, Kan. - State Senator Chris Steineger (D-Kansas City) filed today to run for Kansas Secretary of State.

Steineger brings 16 years of experience in state government to his campaign. For the last 13 years, he has represented the Kansas Senate's 6th District, which includes southern Wyandotte County.

During his tenure at the Statehouse, Steineger served on numerous legislative committees, including the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee, where he learned the laws and procedures governing Kansas elections. Steineger currently serves on the Financial Institutions and Insurance, Education and Assessment and Taxation Committees.

Steineger noted the tradition of operating the Secretary of State's office in a non-partisan and professional manner.

"I pledge to continue this tradition of nonpartisanship and professionalism if I am chosen by the voters," Steineger said. "The responsibility of the Secretary of State is to provide fair and open elections and honest public services to individuals and businesses in a non-partisan manner."

Steineger is the son of Jack Steineger, who was the Kansas Senate Democratic Leader in the 1970s and 1980s.

"I was raised by parents who lived through the Great Depression and World War II," Steineger said. "Many of the lessons that they passed on to me are once again applicable today. Hard work, thrift and living within our means are more sustainable than excessive spending and debt. I plan to incorporate these lessons into the operation of the Secretary of State's office."
